Questions, answered.

A starting set of the questions participants ask most. Tap any question to open the answer. If yours is not here, you can send it to Gladys directly.

  • What happens if I am inconsistent with the frequency of the application?

As with any treatment, consistency is important in achieving the best possible results. We recommend using ScarGel as instructed, AM and PM, to help support the skin's natural repair process. When you begin using the product, it starts the skin's natural healing and rebuilding process. Missing an application from time to time is unlikely to cause harm or interrupt the tissue regeneration process, but frequent inconsistency may slow it and can affect the overall results. For the best outcome, we recommend following the prescribed routine as closely as possible.

  • Will this product make the area more sensitive to the sun, and can I apply SPF?

Using ScarGel will not make the area more sensitive to the sun. However, UV light on unprotected scar tissue can actually slow down the skin's remodeling process and therefore diminish the efficacy of ScarGel. For this reason, we strongly recommend daily use of broad-spectrum SPF on your scar if it will be exposed to UV light.

  • Why is the texture on my scar improving but not the darkness of the skin?

Scar tissue remodeling and scar pigmentation are driven by different biological processes. For this reason, pigmentation changes can sometimes persist even after the scar itself has improved. Your skin tone, the cause of the scar, and any exposure to UV light since the scar developed can all affect how pigmentation changes over time.

  • Would applying the product more often help the scar get better faster?

Using ScarGel more often than recommended is not likely to improve results faster. Scar healing and remodeling occur gradually, and in this case consistency is more important than frequency. We recommend following the AM and PM application instructions for the best results while minimizing the risk of irritation.

  • Could my clothes touching the area where I've applied the product affect my results?

In most cases, normal contact with your clothes won't affect your results. Once applied, we recommend allowing ScarGel to absorb before covering the area. If possible, you may want to avoid tight clothing that consistently rubs against the treated area.

Ask Gladys anything.

Questions about your scar, your timeline, or how to apply the gel are all welcome. Text is usually fastest. Gladys reads and answers each message herself.
